Uppers and Lowers: Four Lid Surgery

Upper lid surgery opens the eyes and reduces shadows which conceal the actual color of the iris.  Lower lid surgery removes eye bags and some wrinkles, but shouldn’t move the lower lid or open the eye at all.  The lower lid margin should stay the same after surgery as it was before.

The Basics

In some cases, drooping upper eyelids and baggy lower eyelids can impact vision and overall facial aesthetics. Four lid surgery corrects these issues by removing excess skin and fat, which can improve peripheral vision and create a smoother, more defined eye contour. This dual-purpose approach not only restores a more youthful appearance but also enhances functional benefits, allowing patients to see and look better.

Who is a good candidate?

Ideal candidates for four lid surgery are generally in good overall health and have realistic expectations about the outcomes. They understand that while the surgery can greatly improve the appearance of the eye area, it’s not a substitute for a complete facial rejuvenation or a permanent solution to aging. They are willing to follow post-operative care instructions and have a clear understanding of the recovery process.
