Neck Shaping: Submental Liposuction

Liposuction below the chin and along the jawline is a one-time treatment that can be done in the office or in the operating room depending on your desire for anesthesia.  It is also a short procedure that can be added on to any other surgery being done in the operating room.   Recovery is 1-2 weeks with swelling and bruising being the noticeable after effects.  Pain is minimal.  Patients return to normal activities at 1 week.

The Basics

Submental liposuction is a cosmetic procedure designed to remove excess fat from beneath the chin, commonly known as a “double chin.” This surgical approach involves using a thin tube called a cannula to suction out fat deposits, resulting in a more defined jawline and neck profile. Submental liposuction is an effective solution for individuals who struggle with stubborn fat in this area, despite diet and exercise, allowing them to achieve a sleeker, more contoured appearance.

Who is a good candidate?

Ideal candidates for submental liposuction are those in good overall health, with no significant medical conditions that would increase surgical risk. They should have realistic expectations about the outcomes, understanding that while submental liposuction can improve neck and chin contours, it is not a weight-loss solution or a treatment for loose skin. These candidates are willing to follow post-operative care instructions and have a clear understanding of the recovery process to ensure optimal results.
